Our School
Kilglass N.S, Ahascragh is situated between Ballinasloe and Mountbellew. It is 12km away from 12km and is 12km away from Mountbellew. There are one hundred students on roll this year (2019-20). We have four mainstream teachers, two Support Teachers, three SNA’s and our School Secretary.
The school was opened in 1840, it was built by the local landlords, The Dillons of Clonbrock. The school was renovated in 1939 and 1998, the current building was extended to accommodate a new classroom and link corridor in 2019. There are four classrooms, two resource rooms, a staff room, secretary’s office in the schools main building and one prefab classroom beside the main building. Our school is comfortable and modern. As you enter the school you would be amazed by the superb artwork done by all the children.
The school also has a large playing field which is a wonderful asset which we make full use of throughout the school year, a tarmacked play area and polytunnel.
Working Together
Kilglass National School is noted for its warm, friendly atmosphere. Led by Principal Mr Vincent Glynn, we work hand-in-hand with our Board of Management which comprises church, school, parental and community members who meet regularly to devise policies and procedures.
We welcome and encourage parental involvement in their children’s education. We believe parents complete the essential triangle of child-school-home, working as a unit to develop a mutually positive relationship in which the children feel safe and secure and enjoy the benefits of a fully supportive school and home life.
