Erasmus/Comenius
Kilglass’s first Erasmus project was a two-year project from 2013-2015. The project was entitled: ‘Healthy Eating and Active Learning’ and we had partner schools from France, Sweden, Italy, Germany and the UK. The project explored foods and pastimes from the various countries and looked at ways we can improve our diets and general fitness by sharing ideas and best practices. The pupils involved visited locations such as Naples and the Lyon area in France while hosting a large number of teachers and pupils in March 2014. The project team even won the St. Patrick’s Day first prize!
In our current Erasmus project: ‘Our Health is Our Wealth’ (2018-2020) we have partnered with schools from Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal and we continue a similar theme from the first project. The project focuses on how we can promote good health, both physical and mental, in school and through workshops and pupil projects we explore diet, fitness and well-being. The project again involves mobilities and some children and teachers have already visited Spain and Italy. We hope to conclude the project with trips to Lithuania and Portugal when school resumes. These projects have been a wonderful learning experience for pupils, teachers and the wider community as we share our unique culture and practices with other EU partners while experiencing other their unique languages, cultures and school systems.
eTwinning
eTwinning is the on-line portal that promotes links between teachers and schools from across Europe. We have used it mainly to find partners for our Erasmus and Comenius projects and then to communicate, plan and record our project. Our current project is ‘Our Health is our Wealth’, and in May 2019 we won the European Day of Languages award for the use of various European languages in this project. We received a visit from Leargas and three Chromebooks as our prize. A great result and prize for the school. Then in November 2019, we received our first quality label for the same eTwinning project.
