European Year of Youth
Kilglass National School were active participants in the European Year of Youth initiative in 2022. This excellent European Commission initiative sought to recognise the sacrifices the youth of Europe made during the recent pandemic, through micro-grant funding for various projects. We were fortunate to be successful in their application which focused on Inclusion in Sport. We arranged an inclusive Summer Sports camp in the school on October 20th and offered a range of fun, physical activities including Dance and Pilates. A key element of our School Camp was the visit of Kiltomer NS to join in the activities. We were delighted to welcome, in particular, their Ukrainian pupils and it was great to see how pupils from both schools integrated so well and had great fun on the day.
We also engaged in a ‘Football for All’ day on Monday, January 9th using the excellent and modern Astro-turf facilities of Kiltullagh Pioneers. All pupils were encouraged to participate and have some fun while completing in a mini-soccer league on the day. Some great skills, goals and saves on view! Inclusion and fun were very much to the fore. Thanks to Kiltullagh for the use of their excellent pitch.
Thank you to Leargas for coordinating the programme and the support of The European Commission and The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth in supporting the EYY micro-grant. These events certainly brought ‘new opportunites, new connections and new friendships’. For it is indeed ‘young people who will shape the future of Europe’ Mariya Gabriel
