Kilglass NS welcomes Erasmus visitors

Kilglass National School welcomed nine teachers representing its Erasmus partner schools in Croatia, Romania and Turkey.  The two year project entitled ´Ecological Literacy for a Sustainable Future’ sees each partner country take a specific related topic for their mobility week.  Kiglass had the focus topic of ´Renewable Energy´ and our visitors enjoyed in-school workshops including constructing mini-turbines and paper-making.  They also visited Galway Wind Park in Oughterard, the Living Bog in Mountbellew and the new, innovative eco-distillery in Ahascragh.   The children were proud to showcase the schoolś new multi-sensory garden and outdoor classroom while presenting renewable energy projects.  The teachers planted a project memorial tree in the garden as a lasting memorial of their great visit.

The excellent school entertainment included Irish dancing, traditional music, Irish language songs and traditional Irish games.  The visitors really enjoyed  their trips to Galway City and Clare and their time in Kilglass, Ahascragh and Ballinasloe where they stayed in the Sheerwater Hotel.  Other highlights were a local guided historical walk with Johnny Johnson and a music session in An Tain.  It was a highly enjoyable and fruitful week for all involved in this stage of the project.  Erasmus projects brings partners together to share rich educational experiences and innovative resources in areas such as Ecology and the environment.

Thanks to all involved.
